The city of Saratoga originally was called Campbell’s Gap for it’s founder William Campbell (Father of Benjamin Campbell to which Campbell Ca is named for).  Later the name McCarthysville was used.  The name changed in 1863 to Bank Mills and then in 1865 after the discovery of a mineral spring similar to the springs of Saratoga Springs in New York, the name was changed to Saratoga.
